John Thieme

John ThiemeAfter graduating from college, in 1983-1991, John worked as an accountant and as the accounting and auditing manager of Klemme and Company, CPA's, prior to leaving to establish his own practice. At the firm, John was primarily responsible for audited, reviewed, and compiled financial statements of medium to small business and not-for-profit organizations. In addition to the financial statement work, he prepared corporate, individual, estate, trust, and personal property tax returns and provided management advisory consulting.

In 1991-1994, John was self-employed as a certified public accountant. The practice focused on the financial and income tax planning needs of closely held corporations and their shareholders. He handled the audit, review and compiling of client financial statements.

In 1994, John merged with Richard Adair CPA to form Thieme and Adair CPAs.

During a total of over twenty-four years of public accounting, John has attended a total of 131 continuing education seminars and conferences on various tax, accounting, auditing, and practice management topics.

John has performed and assisted in performing on and off site quality reviews for the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants quality review program. (a quality review is one where the reviewer would be hired to review the audit and accounting work of another CPA firm to make sure that the firms audits are up to standard).

Personal History

John's great, great, great grandfather (father's side) owned and operated Lafayette Brewing and Bottling Company. John's father was a part-owner of a beer and wine wholesaler.

John's Grandfather (mother's side) started and operated Shambaugh Airport, the first airport in Lafayette, located where Lafayette Life is today, started and operated the first university owned airport, Purdue University Airport, and owned and operated Aretz airport.

John graduated in 1979 from Lafayette Central Catholic and went to Saint Joseph’s College on a basketball scholarship. He graduated cum laude from Saint Joseph’s College in Rensselear, Indiana with a BS in accounting. John was Senior of the Year finalist and co-captain of the basketball team.

Family and Hobbies

John and his wife, Debbie, have six children: TJ 24, Emily 22, Chase 19, David 18, Matt 17 and Maria 12. Hobbies: Sports (coaching and playing), traveling and trains.
